When does registration normally take place?
Track is a spring sport and registration usually is taken at the same time as Baseball/Softball registration, which is in late January.
When does the season usually start?
Track practice usually begins in early March. The first track meet is often in mid to late April.
When does the season usually end?
The season typically runs until mid to late May.
How does track work?
Track practice is held once or twice a week, and attendance is not required. There are track meets where multiple schools compete together. St Peter usually competes in the Nash Dash, which is a great warm up event for prelims. Everyone is welcome to participate in the Nash Dash and prelims. Based on performance at prelims, your child may qualify for finals, which is the final event of the year.
In which Age Group will my child compete?
Track starts in 1st grade. Children compete based on their grade with 1st and 2nd, 3rd and 4th, 5th and 6th, and finally 7th and 8th grades paired together.
What events are available in CYC Track?
There are running events as short as 100 meters (50 meters for 1st and 2nd graders), all the way up to a 1600 meter run, which is roughly a mile. There are also relay events in varying distances. The field events include, standing or running long jump, high jump, and shot put.
Do we need a CYC ID card for Track?
No.
