St. Peter and Paul Soup Kitchen

St. Peter and Paul Soup Kitchen

The volunteers who work in this ministry serve a meal to the homeless and hungry at St. Peter and Paul Church Hall at 811 Allen in the Soulard area downtown. Our service date is the 3rd of each month. If the 3rd falls on a weekend, the meal is served at noon. If the 3rd falls on a M-F, the meal is served at 5pm. The volunteers from our parish who work in this ministry perform one or more of the following services:

Cooks

The cooks make a casserole which is a standard recipe which is shared by all so all cook the same thing monthly. They deliver their casserole on the 1st day of the month to an assigned home within St. Peter Parish. It is then transported to the soup kitchen to be served.

Servers

These volunteers arrive at the soup kitchen within 30 minutes of our meal time and are responsible for plating the salad, casserole and bread. They also serve the guests and clean up after the meal. Servers each provide a dessert monthly which we cut up, plate and serve the guests also. Servers are not required to serve each month, as an rsvp method is used monthly and the first 21 servers to respond on any given month are chosen to serve.

Donations

These volunteers each provide a side item monthly which is then served at the soup kitchen. They deliver the item(s) to an assigned home within St. Peter Parish. Items which are donated include dinner rolls, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, cheese, onions, milk, kool-aid, sugar and creamer, and coffee.

We encourage families to participate but we also have teens, couples and an overall broad age range of volunteers in this ministry.
