Room at the Inn is a social outreach program sponsored by the Sisters of Divine Providence in North County. Since 1993, Room at the Inn has provided 24-hour emergency shelter and a stabilizing support system to women and families in need in St. Louis County, using a collaborative, interfaith effort of congregations and organizations throughout the St. Louis Region.
St. Peter is one of the more than 60 faith communities throughout the area that support the effort. Operating 365 days a year, Room at the Inn offers more than safe, clean shelter and meals. They also provide a comprehensive program designed to help women and families solve the root-causes of their homelessness.
The Sisters of Divine Providence operate with a single day site and more than 60 night sites. At the shelter during the day, clients work to identify and correct the causes of their homelessness and develop the knowledge and skills needed to become self-reliant and prevent future episodes of homelessness. In the evenings, two interfaith partner congregations welcome clients with shared meals, fellowship and a safe place to sleep.
St. Peters is one of the partner congregations. We host overnight clients once a month, on the third Friday of each month in the school cafeteria. The coordinator group helps organize monthly teams which are responsible for transportation, food preparation, and welcoming and loving hospitality for our guests.
