“If religious books are not widely circulated among the masses in this country, I do not know what is going to become of us as a nation.”
(Daniel Webster, 1823)

Parish Library News

Some possible supplements to the 10-part series Catholicism being shown in the parish at various places and times.

The Catholic Passion: Rediscovering the Power and the Beauty of the Faith by David Scott Section E

"A monumental work. Scott weaves material from scripture, history, the arts, the liturgy, theology, spirituality, and personalreflection, showing us that nothing human is alien to Christ - and nothing divine is withheld from God's people." -Scott Hahn, author of The Lamb's Supper

Church History 101: a Concise Overview by Christopher M. Bellitto Section E

This small volume answers the basic question "what did the Church look like in the four traditionally recognized eras: early, medieval, reformation, and modern?" Each chapter includes a map and a timeline and then addresses the topics: 1) The Big Picture: a broad overview of the era; 2) The Church's Heirarchy; 3) The Churchin the Pews: what was Christianity like for the average person; and 4) What made this period unique.

The Strangest Way: Walking the Christian Path by Father Robert Barron Section Z

Is Christianity a bland, domesticated religion, unthreatening and easy to grasp? Or is it the most exotic, unexpected, and uncanny of the religious paths? "At its very center," writes Father Barron, "is a God who comes after us with reckless abandon, breaking open his own heart in love in order to include us in the rhythm of his own life." What could be more compelling?
